Transmittal Issued Regarding
Refinements in Cost Reporting
CMS issued a one-time notification informing the fiscal
intermediaries (FIs) and Medicare Administrative Contractors
(MACs) of the hospital/medical associations’ initiative on encouraging
hospitals to modify their cost reporting practices with
respect to costs and charges in an effort to improve the consistency
of the new cost-based HIPPS MS-DRG relative weights.
This would benefit hospitals in that the consistent reporting of
costs and charges in their appropriate cost centers would
ensure that correct data are reflected in the MedPAR data base.
